Hui-a-Tau Annual General Meeting

Nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa! Thank you to all those who attended the September AGM at Kerepēhi Marae. For those who were an able to make it or missed out on an annual report, these can now be downloaded off the Iwi Trusts website.

Are you Registered? Are your whanau registered? Ko te Wā Tenei! Now is the Time!

Iwi members of Ngāti Paoa, who are 18 years or over can enroll on the NPIT register (with a valid postal address and email details). As a registered member of the Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust, you are able to have your say on how the Iwi Trust activates, empowers, and protects our whakapapa.

Te Wai Unasa shares why she made the decision to register:

“I ensured that myself and my whānau were registered so that we become informed of what’s happening in our iwi, but also to enable us to have a say on matters that can affect us and our future generations. We are the experts of our own lives, therefore being able to have an input and have our voices heard is incredibly important to me”.

Help us build a strong Paoa nation.  Make today the day you and your whānau register.

To register with Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust online visit:  https://www.ngatipaoaiwi.co.nz/tribal-registration.html

or email paoaregister@gmail.com and you will be sent a registration form.  If you are sending your registration through for the first time and have enquiries, please phone Zoe Witika-Hawke on 029 279 4543.

Do you have any Ngati Paoa stories, histories or upcoming events you’d like to share with the Iwi? Or, do you have any pātai to ask about Ngāti Paoa? We’re keen to make this pānui as helpful, useful and interesting as possible for you all so please get in touch with any whakaaro to: ngatipaoa.panui@gmail.com

We’d love to hear from you! Maximum 200 words and we need content by Huna so we can get the pānui out by Rākaunui every month, ngā mihi.

Ānei, te pātai to start us off…

  • Does anyone have or know where to find a Ngati Paoa-specific Maramataka which could be shared with te Iwi?

Ngā kaupapa o te wā A heads up to support our whanaunga in their activities.

Auckland Council Rep

Ngāti Paoa is delighted to congratulate Kerrin Leoni on her election to the Auckland Council as a councillor for the Whau ward. The first wahine Māori elected to a general seat since the formation of the super city, the first elected wahine mana whenua councilor for our city. The challenge has been laid and we know that she will rise to it. Your iwi stand as a pou tuarā mōu e te wahine. We also acknowledge Blair Anderson who ran a great campaign, and narrowly missed a seat in the Waiheke ward. We are deeply proud of you both and for having the courage to step up and stand for our communities and in our spaces. You are both winners in our eyes. Look out next time. Paoa has awakened and we are on the rise. Paoa ki te hoe!

Opportunities for Impact

The Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust have been working towards increasing our Ngāti Paoa presences on boards, and in forums or bodies that we are invited to participate in and  efforts are underway to upskill and build our capacity to participate in these governance spaces. We are looking to find a group of people who are keen to represent Ngāti Paoa in these spaces.

  • If you are interested in and have experience in the Commercial, Education, and Health Sectors, in Te Reo Māori, Iwi histories, Arts, Museum practices, or Cultural practices; and,

  • If you wish to learn about governance, or have previous governance experience; and

  • If you wish to be active in your iwi space, then follow the link below and let us know about you and your areas of interests!
